The ranks of the highest Waffen-SS commanders ranged from SS Brigadeführer and Major General of the Waffen-SS to SS Oberstgruppenführer and Colonel General of the Waffen-SS. This reference work presents these approximately 100 men in individual biographies, both in text and images. The painstakingly compiled data comes from the files of the SS Personnel Office at the Berlin Document Center. Through his systematic examination of the personnel data, the author was also able to gather important statistical findings about the holders of the general ranks, such as their age structure, regional and social background, religious beliefs and education, war decorations, and casualties. The author also investigates the party affiliation of the Waffen-SS generals – with the astonishing result that 18 of them were not members of the NSDAP.
