Stalingrad stands for the turning point of the Second World War, for the complete failure of the German leadership and for the senseless and unscrupulous sacrifice of an entire army. Even today, more than 75 years later, their victim is still present in the historical consciousness.
Around 150,000 German soldiers died in the months of the Battle of Stalingrad. Soviet prisoners of war faced 91,000 men and an uncertain fate - only around 6,000 of them were to see their homeland again after years of deprivation. In all hardship and misery were always close at hand with the more than 10,000 members of the medical units in the cauldron, who performed their service to the wounded and sick under the most adverse conditions to complete physical exhaustion - sometimes sacrificing their own lives.
