Das eiserne Kreuz in der deutschen Geschichte - Gebundene Ausgabe

The Iron Cross, probably the most famous order in world history, is 200 years old: On March 10, 1813, the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. on the occasion of the Wars of Liberation this order, the original version of which comes from Karl Friedrich Schinkel. The material of the order, iron, was in contrast to the otherwise often elaborately designed orders - deliberately kept simple, which not only referred to the shape of the Teutonic Order cross, but also to restraint, simplicity and chivalrous and soldierly duties as Prussian virtues. The foundation's deed was dated to the birthday of Queen Luise, who died in 1810 and was very popular with the people. Luise received the first copy of the Iron Cross posthumously herself. It was in the base of her bust in the Hohenzieritz Memorial Temple.

Since Friedrich Wilhelm III. had determined at the Foundation of the Order that it should be awarded only once and only during the Wars of Liberation, it became new in later wars that existed for Prussia and Germany - the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71, the First and Second World Wars donated.
The richly colored book, which is illustrated throughout, not only describes the history of the order and its various forms, variants and editions, but also shows the historical context of individual epochs of the award ceremony. The author also discusses the “afterlife” of the order, for example the legal approval of the Federal Republic with regard to the wearing of war orders from 1957, in particular the Iron Cross, the change in traditional views in the Bundeswehr and the introduction of a military badge of honor of the Federal Republic in 2008.

The work is also an accompanying volume for the exhibition on the Iron Cross, which is taking place in the Rastatt Museum of Military History in 2013.
