in the divisions of the Waffen SS

Speed, surprise and presence of mind of the leaders and sub-leaders were the most important qualities of the reconnaissance detachments. In armored cars like the Sd.Kfz. 234, on BMW and Zündapp motorcycles or with specially developed VW Schwimmwagen, they operated in advance or behind enemy lines, always expecting to encounter the enemy at any time. Equipped with powerful radios, they could immediately report the enemy's presence, strength and combat readiness. This book documents the operations of the Waffen-SS divisions' reconnaissance aircraft during World War II. It shows men, vehicles and weapons in action. The photos, often taken directly on the march or in combat situations, convey an authentic picture of the hard and relentless war effort. They show the strain on people and material up to the limit of performance. Beyond any whitewashing, the war is presented in all its cruel facets: with destruction, wounding and death.
