On August 8, 1944 Michael Wittmann was near Cintheaux entangled between Caen and Falaise in a battle with a group of 5 Sherman Firefly tank. Ultimately, the superiority was too great and he fell at the command post, where he had destroyed two of enemy tanks and incapacitating shot a. Wittmann's team no one survived and together with her he was buried in a public cemetery in Hamlet of Gaumesnil. A week later, the Allies closed the Falaise pocket and put the German troops located there firmly.
